The Department of Home Science was established in 1987. It has two specializations namely Foods and Nutrition and General Home Science at M. Sc. and Ph.D Level. The department has good infra-structural facility with its separate building constructed with the generous donation of renowned philanthropist Dr. Dipchandbhai Gardi and by partial grant of UGC.
It has a food science, Biochemistry and general Home Science laboratories equipped with analytical instruments and necessary furniture. Besides, the computer laboratory also has the latest software and equipment. The department also has its own library and class rooms with ICT facilities and seminar hall. Department has internet with Wi Fi access for staff and students. The major research areas of the faculty members are Community Nutrition, Food Science, Therapeutic Nutrition, Extension and Communication etc. The department has one of the two centers in the state running an M. Sc DFSM (Dietetics and Food Service Management), DNHE (Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education), CFN and CNCC for INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY (IGNOU).
