The department of history was established in 1969. At present there are 3 full-time faculties imparting guidance to post-graduate students, studying in M.A. (4 Semesters, with an intake capacity of 60), M.Phil. (2 Semesters) with an intake capacity of 09 and doctoral students pursuing their Ph.D.
The focus of the department is on teaching Regional History, Indian History, World history and Tourism. The Department also imparts guidance to those teachers who are working with affiliated colleges in historical research methodology and research projects. The Department has to its credit 200 published research papers and 25 books till date. It is infra-structurally sound with its own library and modern teaching equipment. The future plans of this Department are to start Post Graduate Diploma courses in Archaeology, Musicology and Archives. Plans of established its own Museum is in the advance stages and the department already has a small Museum.
