The Department of Economics was established in 1977 and offers a four-semester M.A. Program in CBSC mode with an intake capacity of 70 per annum. Apart from, Ph.D. Programme of six semesters with an intake as per the UGC 2016 regulation in the CBSC mode. It has a highly qualified team of four full-time faculty members who, apart from teaching and quality research, are activity involved in guiding learners through various competitive examinations like the UPSC, GPSC, NET, GSLET, IES, CA etc. There is a golden tradition of students of Department of Economics to excellent in various fields by performing brilliantly in public examinations like GPSC, NET, GSET, IBPS etc. The Extension activities of this Department include aiding the all-round socio-economic development activities in the entire Saurashtra region, as well as facilitating the academic-industrial interaction with several industrial organizations and chambers of Commerce. it has collectively contributed to more than 100 research dissertations and thesis at M. Phil. and Ph.D. level in the last five years. Land mark research project were in areas of Coastal Fisheries, Alang Ship-breaking Industry, Agro-Industrial and Regional Development, Human Development and Salinity Ingress etc.  The Department is poised for a great leap in the arena of innovative teaching, extensive research and all round extension activities.
