Saurashtra University celebrated 61st Independence Day on its campus. Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Kamlesh Joshipura hoisted the flag. All University employees and students present at this time saluted the fluttering National Flag and sang the National Song. On this occasion Honorable Pro Vice Chancellor Shri K. T. Trivedi, Heads of the Departments, Faculty member, Administrative staff and Students were present to honor the National festival. |

A team of experts from UGC arrived on 11th August 2008 in the Saurashtra University. They first visited the officers of the University and remain present during the University presentation laid by the Honorable Vice Chancellor. Afterward the team members visited various departments on the campus. During the visit they shared there suggestions with the respective departments." |

In the education field of Saurashtra University region as an historic event Dr. Kamlesh Joshipura took over the charge as Vice Chancellor of Saurashtra University on 4/8/08. Before taking charge Dr. Joshipura put a garland to the statue of first Vice Chancellor Dr. Dolarrai Mankad and performed pooja of Sarshwati. He also accepted the greeting of the large crowed of well-wishers and then went to the Vice Chancellor office to take over the charge. |

Dr. Kamlesh Joshipura, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Saurashtra University, inaugurating the “Fume Hood” of the ultramodern & state of the art laboratory facility, recently renovated under the UGC (SAP) programme, UGC (New Delhi) ate the cost of Rs. 20:00 lacks, in the premises of Department of Chemistry, Saurashtra University.
At the entrance, near the Commemorative Plaque, the delegates from the Saurashtra Drug Manufacturers Association, Professors, Registrar, Shri G. M. Jani, Dr. Ananmik Shah, Dr. P. H. Parsania, Head of the Department of Chemistry.

"Saurashtra University built five new buildings with the help of donors on 07/07/08. The Opening Ceremony of these buildings was arranged by the Saurashtra University. On this occasion well-known philanthropist Shri Dipchand bhai Gardi, Member of Parliament Shri Vijay bhai Rupani, All India President of Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh Shri Hasu bhai Dave, Honorable Vice Chancellor Shri K. P. Joshipura, Honorable Pro Vice Chancellor Shri K. T. Trivedi, Registrar Shri Gajendra Jani were present along with the University Staff, Syndicate Members and invitees. The newly built buildings are International Faculty Transit House, Indu bhai Parekh Art Gallery, Bio-technology Department, Carrier Counseling and Development Center and Pharmacy Department. Internet service facility was also inaugurated by Shri Vijay bhai Rupani. |

Today, on the first Thursday of July, it was a regular prayer's day. Honorable Vice Chancellor, Honorable Pro Vice Chancellor, Controller of Examination, Heads of the Departments and students offered a prayer. At the same time following the Gujarat Government Guideline the University welcome the newly admitted students to a "Admission Celebration Event". |

On 12th April, 2008 a group of members of Rotary Club, Miss Reda Rowell, Miss Dona, Mr. Upendra Bhatt and Neel Doshi visited Saurashtra University. Miss Reda, who is the director of the development of Clayton State University, Georgia, USA, wished to visit the Saurashtra University during the interaction with the Head of the Department of Saurashtra University. She shared some academic matters. She expressed her willingness to have partnership of Saurashtra University with Clayton University. Responding to her wish Registrar assured that Saurashtra University would like to have MOU with the Clayton University. |

Brig. A. K. Verma and Cdr. R. P. Singh of N.C.C. group visited the Respected Vice Chancellor and Respected Pro Vice Chancellor. They discussed about the N.C.C. programs. Around 5000 N.C.C. cadets of Saurashtra University including boys and girls are taking trainings. These N.C.C. officials discuss regardingly the N.C.C. cadets. They requested the Vice Chancellor to grant relaxation to attendance when they are on N.C.C. duty. They also requested to make provision to allot special marks for the student candidates seeking admission to the University causes having N.C.C. "C" certificate. They also requested for cooperation in the defense studies. A separate complex for N.C.C. activities on university campus was also requested. The Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor agreed positively to proliferate the N.C.C. activities on the campus and throughout the Saurashtra region. |

The center for women's studies i.e. "Vidushi" of Saurashta University organized a seminar on "Woman Consciousness in Gujarat: Idealism and Reality". The chief speaker and well known writer Varsha ben Adalja, Dr. Shirin Mehta and Jyoti Unadkat expressed that coherence of understanding is required among women and men to reach the idealism from reality regarding the woman empowerment. |

A One Day Symposium on “Advances in Biological Sciences” was organized in the Department of Biosciences, Saurashtra University, Rajkot on 05 March 2008. In the conference about 40 students presented their posters on modern aspects of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology. Presentations were also related to Environmental Sciences. Over all, the symposium was well attended and provided good exposure to students and faculty. The presentations were judged by the departmental faculty and an expert committee comprising out side experts. |
